{Weekday Getaway} Hix Island House – Vieques, PR

During our time in Vieques last week we spent our nights at the Hix Island House. This place was fun because it was like “glamping” – the lofts were completely open to the elements but you aren’t in a tent. They are made of the concrete utilizing Wabi Sabi design elements and are very eco friendly.

When my husband I and travel we like to do things a little differently. Whether that is exploring or staying off the beaten path, we always find some way to be adventurous. When we found out we were going to PR for Matt + Suzie’s wedding, I immediately scoured the internet for fun stuff to do. I found out about Vieques and Hix and was sold. We got an off-season bargain and were off!

This place was special because it was almost completely off-the-grid. Not much internet, no TV and a pretty remote location. We spent the entire week relaxing, reading, chatting, playing games, listening to the rain {there was a lot of that!} and enjoying each other. It was lovely. I already miss the quiet and fresh air. The fresh baked bread and fruit they supplied every morning was also pretty sweet. :)

If you are ever in Vieques def check this place out. They also offer daily public Vinyasa yoga classes in an open air studio. What’s not to love?!

Happy Thursday! :)
