{Weekday Getaway} Vieques Air Link

I am really terrified of flying. I love to travel but every time that I get on a plane I’m convinced that something terrible is going to happen. This has gotten a lot better in recent years and def does not stop me from going places but it is always in the back of my mind. So when we went to Puerto Rico in December and came up with the idea to visit the island of Vieques we discovered that our only travel options were to take a 1 hour ferry {from an inconvenient location} or a small 20 minute prop plane ride from San Juan. Since our trip was short we opted for convenience and took the plane ride. Um, I’ve never been on a prop plane and up until that moment really never had a desire to do so. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t totally freak out when we pulled up to the airport and realized just how small this operation was. No TSA, no metal detectors – just us, about 9 other people and a captain. Eeek…

My husband loves this stuff. He travels a lot, has been on these types of planes many times and really is just as go with the flow as you get when it comes to weird travel stuff. I hate him {not really}.

When the captain asked me to sit in the front seat I got even more scared. Does that mean I’d be the first to die when it crashes? Ha…

But, guess what? We took off, started flying and the views were amazing. It wasn’t that bad and I got to take some awesome pictures. I’m not going to lie and say that I wasn’t sweating the entire 20 minutes, but I am glad I did this. It made our travel to Vieques a lot easier and I got to see some pretty awesome stuff a long the way.

Every once in a while we need to challenge ourselves. Step away from what is comfortable and live. I am a work in progress when it comes to that but all I have to say is: just do it. :)

Happy Thursday!
